Try as he might, Dioptase doesn’t have an aetheric bone
in his body. From a near-inability to cast spells to frequent aethersickness, even the slightest imbalance can cause his
head to spin and knock him down for the count.

Becoming an adventurer has it's fair share of plus sides—
traveling more places means new vineyards to discover!
As an aspiring sommelier, Di loves a good glass of wine. Or champagne. Or sherry. And more! (Best to cut him off before

Growing up, Di didn't connect with religion. It wasn't until
he moved to Ul'dah, where he discovered Azeyma. Her path

BACKGROUND

◇ early childhood

Dioptase Cusio is no stranger to living through difficult times. Him and his sister, Chrysocolla, grew up within the derelict boundaries of the Brume. Life was simple, even though they were poor. Their parents were lowborn soldiers, who hoped their service to the Holy See would lead to better fortune. The realities of the Dragonsong War were hardly so kind, however, and the siblings are left fatherless after he's slain in battle.The frequent, fiery assaults the Brume often endured fostered a fear of the Dravanian onslaught in Di from a young age. Their mother, riddled with anxiety before a deployment to the Dravanian Forelands, makes the irrational decision to surrender her children to Gridania. In the refuge of the Twelveswood, she prays they'll grow up safe from the Dravanian Horde.

◇ late childhood

While Gridania was safer than Ishgard, the Shroud was no more welcoming. The forest came with its' own set of problems, after all. The siblings were treated as outsiders by most, finding solace in the hospitality of the carpenter's guild. The two would grow up in the impromptu orphanage at the Acorn Orchard.At some point, they lose contact with their mother, and it is assumed the worst.Chrysocolla turns out to be a natural prodigy in archery, while Dioptase is content to immerse himself in the rich texts of the elementals, pouring over pages of conjury magic. Despite his zeal, he isn't allowed to learn the art due to his poor aetheric capabilities.

◇ adolescence

A shining star of the archer's guild, Chrys becomes an adventurer, specialized in tracking and slaying powerful hunt marks. Dioptase is infuriated by his magical inability, and continues studying theory in hopes he'll one day be able to overcome his shortcomings.For the longest time, Di thought nothing could be scarier than draconic hellfire. The fall of Dalamud proved him wrong. While his sister dedicates herself to the reconstruction efforts, Dioptase is paralyzed by fear following the Calamity. Shaken and terrified, he remains reclusive in the Black Shroud, struggling to process everything.

◇ adulthood

Enough wallowing in self-misery and feeling sorry for himself—Dioptase decides to make a change. He moves to Ul'dah to become an adventurer like his sister. Deciding to leave everything behind and restart his life in a strange, busting city has the poor man a nervous wreck!Determined to pursue his interest in magic, Di joins the thaumaturge's guild. Make no mistake: his magical abilities have in no way improved, and his aetheric reserves are as thin as ever. But Dioptase Cusio is hellbent on becoming a mage, futile it may be.During this time, he meets a young auri man named Nawashiro Nihei, and the two become close friends, quickly forging a relationship & falling in love.

originally born to the borlaaq tribe, nihei was given to iriq merchantsnow, in the hands of yanxian merchants, nawashiro nihei recieves his name.
nihei was born borlaaq (the #girl tribe), and then adopted by iriq merchants. a small trade convoy from namai is en route to meet with the kha tribe when they find a slaughtered caravan near the yanxian border, the sole survivor being a single infant, still swaddled and crying. assuming the slain traders to be kha, they take care of the baby until arriving at the outpost. to which the kha are like "those arent our tribal colors, thats an iriq kid." and reizan is like "o. Well i have a child now"
he grew up happily in namai, helping his parents tend to the rice fields. even as a child, nihei was always building things.
the garlean occupation fundamentally changed things in their small village. nihei did not have the chance to grow up in a free village. undernow under the imperial yoke, life was much different. however, it did expose young nihei to one thing--magitek. spare machine parts or defunct warmachina now littered yanxia, giving nihei plenty of time to tinker and reverse engineer the mechanistry.
by late adolescence, nihei is HNGFJKSHGJKFH. he hears rumors of a defected garlean living in eorzea, starting a engineering coalition, and nihei wants to join. with no clear path ahead, he sets from namai to kugane to limsa lominsa, before finally settling in the commerce city of ul'dah in hopes of finding out more about this "ironworks" technology.
upon moving to eorzea and joining the ironworks does nihei begin to learn about Allag, and the complex technology astonishes him. biointegrationdi actually calls nihei "shiro"... nihei doesnt let anyone outside of his family call him that...... they r gay
